Me thinks tt SG and Romania are just clowns, doing themselves in and derailing the entire negotiatory process,

Shame on ST for having contact with Ionescu and publishing his 'nonsense', ST is just trying to further scandalize the issue by encouraging Ionescu to spew more lies to the press. ST just want to the scandal to get big and juicy so it can sell more newspapers by reporting this scandal to an unknowing public. Shame on ST. No morals, only pandering to share holder financial interest. Shame on ST. Shame on ST.

Interpol Red Notice of arrest against Silviu Ionescu suspended
By S Ramesh |Posted: 26 April 2010 1631 hrs
SINGAPORE: Singapore Foreign Minister George Yeo said Monday Interpol's Red Notice of arrest against Silviu Ionescu has been suspended.
This is due to disagreement between the two countries as to whether the Romanian diplomat had immunity at the time of accident last December.

SINGAPORE - For weeks, since the former Charges' d'Affaires of the Romanian Embassy here returned home, what Singaporeans knew about the Romanian government's actions in the matter was that it had suspended and charged Dr Silvio Ionescu, and that it had requested more information from Singapore as the case was referred to its Prosecutor's Office.

Ionescu still has 'immunity'
By Teh Joo Lin
ROMANIA sent Singapore a diplomatic note last Friday asserting that former charge d'affaires Silviu Ionescu continues to enjoy diplomatic immunity for the hit-and-run case of Dec 15.
This is puzzling, said Foreign Minister George Yeo, as 'it seems to imply that Romania is now claiming that Dr Ionescu was engaged in official duties at the time of the accident and we do not understand how this can possibly be the case'.

Don’t exclude HDB upgrading schemes from those who vote for opposition
Jan 24, 2006
I refer to the forthcoming elections. It is understood that HDB upgrading schemes are targeted at PAP voters in their constituencies. Would it be appropriate if this is emphasised during the elections?
The people should not be excluded from the upgrading schemes on the ground that they voted for the opposition parties.

No immunity for Ionescu
By Teh Joo Lin
SINGAPORE has told Romania that its former charge d'affaires Silviu Ionescu does not enjoy diplomatic immunity for his alleged offences on Dec 15 last year. Based on Article 39.2 of Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, a diplomat loses immunity for non-official acts when his posting ends and he leaves his host country.

Singapore application to Interpol hits brick wall.

Singapore application to Interpol hits brick wall.
Perhaps Singapore could be a bit more respectful of international legal protocol, especially since Romania has thus far seemed quite cooperative for their part (already indicting Dr Ionescu on 2nd Feb for 'negligent homicide, fleeing the scene of the accident and false statements'; '... suspended from his diplomatic duties'). Think complying w International norms would achieve a better prosecution outcome, not to mention, improve the image of Singapore amongst the international community, rather then a 'high-handed' approach.

AsiaOne Forum censored words, time for review?

Hi,
I just discovered that 'Wong K*an Seng' is an 'illegal word' that is automatically censored into '**** *** ****'; (You wouldn't even know what I'm talking about if not for the asterisk in the former).

This is quite a ridiculous precedence and I note is in play even in the 21Oct2008 1st thread post: 'Do Singaporeans REALLY REALLY REALLY felt it is "Singaporeans come first"? -'

If elections are to come and with the opposition gearing up for a fight, how can the PAP stand up to scrutiny if by choice or by consequence they continue to 'remain in the shadows'?

Qn: should a 'Charity' be so investment focused?

Specific to CHC, what kind of Church is it that requires so large a collection of assets just to perform it's simple role of 'the advancement of religion'. Does being in the 'heart of town' help much in the conduct of the 'the advancement of religion'? Perhaps CHC needs to convince Singaporeans about how it does serve public interest through its 'the advancement of religion' and why it deserves its 'Charity status' before it continues on its path of the Suntec $310M purchase.

Regulation of large NON-IPC charities, is regulation lax?

I note that under the category 'other information' (a must for IPCs though I must add- CHC is NOT yet an IPC, but a ginormous 'charity'), disclosure I feel is lacking in the 'other information' category of the CHC financial report- this should be changed.
