Not for love of money, but of Humanity. "Greater is he who works for the good of all, then he who works for the good of himself only" ~ Matthew 25:40: "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'"- (NIV). CCS (implied): 'Proudly, we practise eugenics in Singapore'...

Title of the quoted report sounds really good/ grand, but devil is in the details, a deceptive headline indeed.

Extra leave for married mothers of 16weeks as opposed to the usual 8, to the extra 8weeks is 'R and R' for the mom to go tours (jiak huang) and enjoy herself???!!! So the real reason why people get married and have kids is to get leave from work to enjoy themselves (free bonus $$$ (next paragraph)) ???!!!

Kids of unwed moms are also INELIGIBLE for 'Baby Bonus Cash Gift and Child Development Account': so the 'child development account' is a reward to the parents: can use for 2nd honeymoon is it???!!! Likewise, the baby bonus cash is a reward to married couples for having unprotected sex and the proof of it???!!!

Also, unwed moms are ineligible to claim 'handicapped child relief' or even 'qualifying child relief': how then are handicapped kids of unwed moms expected to receive the best care possible for their handicapped???!!: I believe that the PAP thinks either that all foetuses of unwed moms should be aborted or should suffer ostracism and neglect so severe to the extent that they wish daily that they would have died even before they were born.

I think CCS in this regard is a joke and probably just another rubber stamp minister who simply graduated from being a rubber-stamping, coat-tails, walkovers GRC MP.

Indeed, in the land of Lee dynasty, some people are MORE EQUAL than others, as for the pledge we said daily in primary school: "a democratic society based on justice and equality": was that all just grandstanding / subterfuge? What is the truth?

To deprive a child of priority in the queue for luxuaries one thing, to deprive a child of bare necessities simply shows what a mean hearted person Minister Chan Chun Seng is. Shame on you Minister, U have deprived a generation of Singaporean kids of the barest of necessities and the handicapped ones will also surely curse U should they suffer/ actually die.

SINGAPORE – Children get the same benefits whether or not their mothers are married, said Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing in Parliament yesterday (Nov 3). However, benefits that are intended to support marriages and births within the context of families are only given to married mothers, he added.

He stated this in response to a question by Non-Constituency Member of Parliament Lina Chiam, who asked if the benefits given by the Government for unwed mothers are the same as those for married mothers, and if the Government has further plans to help unwed mothers.

Mr Chan reiterated that the Government provides support and benefits for the care and development of all Singaporean children, listing benefits related to child care, child development, education and healthcare as examples.

The benefits extended to all Singaporean children whether or not their mothers are married are:
Child care leave and upaid infant care leave
Foreign domestic worker levy concession
Centre-based infant and child care subsidies
Kindergarten Financial Assistance Scheme (KiFAS)
Education subsidies
Student care subsidies
Child Development Credits, Post-Secondary Education Account (PSEA) top-ups
Edusave Pupils Fund; Edusave Scholarship and Awards
Maternity leave of 8 weeks
Medisave grant for newborns
MediShield coverage for congenital and neonatal conditions
Government healthcare subsidies and Medifund

The benefits for married mothers are:
Baby Bonus Cash Gift and Child Development Account
Maternity leave of 16 weeks
Parenthood tax rebate, qualifying child relief, handicapped child relief, working mother’s child relief, and grandparent caregiver relief
Housing grant for families
Housing priority schemes

These policies are all subject to regular review to ensure currency and relevance, added Mr Chan. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
